BLOOM A SOLO SHOW BY ALEJANDRO JURADO Curated by Michael Simpson Oct 15 2020 - Jan 15 2021 Catalog Acquire Contact Us Subscribe Alejandro Jurado's BLOOM, curated by Michael Simpson, shows an emphatic journey through a wide repertoire of pieces by the young painter Cuban Alejandro Jurado. This curatorship speculative, as explained by its referee intellectual, “far from being methodological, brings a new perception of the curator in their relationship with the artwork and with the artist ”. And I do not doubt that its setting on stage demonstrates it, nor do I doubt that the enthusiasm aroused from its curator reaches its levels of demonstrativeness, but, in this case, I It is especially interesting to refer to the artist's painting, which is ultimately the first and last object of this relevant digression. Stories 2020 Oil and glass on canvas 43 3/10 × 59 1/10 in 110 × 150 cm Acquire Pure 2020 Acrylic on canvas 39 2/5 in diameter 100 cm diameter Acquire Pier 2020 Acrylic on canvas 39 2/5 in diameter 100 cm diameter Acquire Nox Lumina 2020 Oil and glass on canvas 59 x 9.8 in 150 x 30 cm Acquire Contrary to the lethargic curatorial discourse that usually runs about the most dissimilar samples of contemporary art in the Institución-Arte in Cuba, BLOOM, shades the white empty walls canvas, model eternal "white cube" in favor of a different look at the order of things. The scoop on subdividing the process creative supports the curatorial narrative of this exhibition. The intention, far from being methodological, it provides new perception of the curator in his relationship with the work of art and the artist. Prelude 2020 Acrylic on canvas 81.88 × 66.92 in 208 × 170 cm Acquire Ceremony 2020 Acrylic on canvas 39 2/5 in diameter 100 cm diameter Acquire Infinity 2020 Oil and copper on canvas 39.3 x 35.4 in 100 x 90 cm Acquire Is this it (Ensemble) 2020 Oil and glass on canvas 15.7 × 15.7 in each 40 × 40 cm each Acquire Black Page (Diptych) 2020 Oil and glass on canvas 23.6 × 15.7 in each 600 × 40 cm each Acquire The content of the pieces hides clear guidelines in the intrinsic consolidation of the idea, the materialization of the concept, the refusal to homogenize the system. Behind the strokes, the tones, the support, the game eternal between "the form" and "the content" and the background that Alejandro brings to its pieces, we fall squarely in the causality of order in the creative process. This show, as a strike of subjectivized academicism in the artist's mind, endows the works with conceptual organization, even before the curatorial idea is conceived. Evaporate 2020 Oil and glass on canvas 51.1 × 43.3 in 130 × 110 cm Acquire Dew (Diptych) 2020 Acrylic on canvas 39 2/5 × 23 3/5 in 100 × 60 cm Acquire Eternal 2020 Acrylic on canvas 39 2/5 in diameter 100 cm diameter Acquire Silence Valley (Diptych) 2020 Oil and glass on canvas 47.2 × 23.6 in each 120 × 60 cm each Acquire Autumn Leaves (Diptych) 2020 Oil on canvas 120 × 90 in each 47.2 × 35.4 cm each Acquire Disintegration 2020 Acrylic on canvas 39 2/5 × 39 2/5 in 100 × 100 cm Acquire Catalog Acquire Contact Us Subscribe

Daily Mythology Online Solo Show by Jose Angel Nazabal Oct 01 2020 - Jan 10 2021 About Nazabal Press Release Acquire Contact Us Subscribe Various issues such as identity (ethnic, sexual and gender), queer theory and sexual alterities, design architectural, art history and self-referentiality gravitate around my work as a constant reflection . I'm interested in the production of different subjectivities such as promoting drag culture, exploring categories as rich and multiple as androgyny or femininity, homoerotic art and camp aesthetics, characterized by poses, affectation and drama. In my work I'm interested in highlighting the artifices, the carnival, the tragic-festive, the representation of the body, the theatricality, the extravagance and the marginalization of homoerotic desire, peripheries and all those expressions that constitute some type of dissent from the roles established by the culture of patriarchy. About Nazabal About Jose Angel Nazabal José Angel Nazabal [1994, Havana, Cuba]. Architect, comic artist and visual artist. Graduated from the AcademySan Alejandro National Plastic Arts in the specialty of Painting and Drawing, in 2013. He graduated as Urban Architectat the Technological University of Havana ¨José Antonio Echeverría¨ in 2019. His work has been published in books and specialized art magazines, inside and outside of Cuba. About Nazabal Press Release Acquire Contact Us Subscribe Press Release Press Release Jose Angel Nazabal, born in turn-of-the-century Cuba, presents his own personal vision of the queer culture, at a time when the national conversation in the island still deals with these topics with a hint of awkwardness and reluctance. A society tinted by the urgency of machismo and conventional family models is the parallel universe that encapsulates Nazabal’s characters. Like actors protected by the imaginary fourth wall, his characters are shown as they are when they are allowed to be, with no filters or accommodations for the regular viewer. The way they dress, their openly effeminate gestures and even the items surrounding them depict a clear and accurate picture of their most intimate realities. The same ones that are not often shared in a public context. Each title, being as eloquent as the artworks themselves, give a real-life voice to his characters and place them into cultural context. They represent esthetics and moral principles through phrases that are not strange to the everyday Cuban. Nazabal connects this mundane traits with the magnificence of Greek sculptures and their adulation to a conventionally perfect human body. Nazabal, who graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, also has a degree in urban architecture. He currently lives and works in Havana where he is involved in multiple creative projects. His work has been published in books and specialized magazines both inside and outside of Cuba Daily Mythology, a show organized and presented by Wiley Galleries can be accessed on the gallery’s website (bit.ly/daily-mythology ) from October 1st, 2020 to January 10th, 2021. A parallel show will also be presented on Artsy (bit-ly/daily-mythology-artsy ) with equal dates (URL not active until October 1st).
